Manglik: A blessing or A Curse?
Mangal dosha or kuja dosha is the combination in the birth chart or horoscope where Mars (also known as Mangal or Kuja) is placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house in the Ascendant. A person with mangal dosha in his natal chart is called Manglik. Some astrologers consider 2nd house Mars as a Manglik place as well. However, in general the above 5 places Mars is widely popular as Manglik

Now, before explaining the effects of being a Manglik let’s understand is Manglik a curse or blessing? For finding that let’s see some probability on Manglik.
If you do some basic mathematics, you will realize that there are 12 possible places where Mangal can be placed, out of which, if Mangal is found in 6 places, then the person is known as Manglik. This means the probability of anyone being Manglik is 6/12 = 0.5. In other words, out of 100, 50 people are Manglik by straight probability.
Now, the exact half number being cursed will be a very silly thing to believe in. That is why being a Manglik is very much normal. It is neither the curse nor the blessing rather it is just a simple placement of Mars in one’s horoscope/birth chart.

Now the question might arise if being a Manglik is normal then why so much fuss about it in the market? Well, to understand that let’s go step by step.
First, we need to see which planet is taken into consideration in being a Manglik. It is Mangal or MARS. Now, in Jyotish Shastra, Mangal is the representation of vital energy, health, passion, aggression, and sometimes sexuality.
MARS represents: Energy, brothers, passion, aggression, war, land, desire, anger, sexuality, etc.
Mars rules two signs among the 12, they are Aries(MESHA) and Scorpio(VRISCHIKA). Now, if we look at both these signs, these both signs are huge quanta of energy. Aries energy is the initiating energy and the scorpion one is transforming. So a large supply of energy is being carried by these two signs which make Mars a very fierce planet as well.
Now, we know Mars is a very high-energy-carrying planet. Now when this energetic graha sits in the houses of self(1st), family(2nd, 4th), spouse(7th), and sexual life(8th and 12th), we call it the Manglik combination. Now if you pay detailed attention to the houses, all are related to grihastha(household) matters. So a very energetic Graha sitting above this house may impact the approach towards household affairs.
Take the example of the 8th house. It is the house of secrecy, sexual life, saubhagya(of a woman). Now a very high energetic planet sitting in this house may increase the desire of having a physical connection in a very aggressive manner. Now if the partner is not of the same energy than cases like marital rape might occur. So in ancient times, it was advised to marry a Manglik if one is a Manglik.

However, this is not the end of decoding here. There are more dictums which cancels the Manglik Dosha than the dictums of being a Manglik itself. This is where most of astrologers make a loophole and earn money. Manglik Cancellation will nullify the effect of being a Manglik. So, before coming to a concrete conclusion, one needs to have a holistic chart analysis from a learned astrologer.
There are many theories from Shastra which cancel the Manglik effect. Among them, some of which are:
Manglik Dosha is nullified when:
1. Mars is combust in chart.
2. When saturn is aspecting mars (one way aspect not a mutual aspect e.g. saturn in 2nd house and mars in 4th house).
3. When Mars is necha and receiving benefic aspects from unaafclited jupiter, venus ,moon n Mercury or conjunct one of them.
4. After the age of 28 effect of mars decreases.
